I ended up liking this a little more than I expected to.
That being said, some of the spiritual moments didn't quite work for me. I guess when reading fiction I don't necessarily expect or want to read about someone's fake spiritual experiences. That seems kind of bratty but I don't know how else to put it.
Along with that, when I read books that are Latter Day Saint based, I am okay with all of the references to the culture but I can't help but wonder about what other people that aren't familiar with the church think when reading the same things.
Anyway, aside from all of the religious context, I thought it was well written and I enjoyed comparing it to the original classic. I enjoyed seeing how Jamison took the story and made it work in a modern world. It actually made me realize, human relationships don't really change that much through the ages since what worked in the story then, works now as well.
I could recommend this book since it was clean and a fun read through once but I don't think I will ever feel the need to reread it.
