A Brazen Curiosity

***1/2
Strongish PG

Possibly but not Easily Recommend

I went out on a limb here and purchased a book because one reviewer deemed it clean.
I know that wasn't super smart but I am still on the hunt for clean historical mysteries.
This first installment of the Beatrice Hyde-Clare mysteries was cleaner than a lot of other murder mysteries I have tried but it did still have some objectionables...namely {Language} and {Back Story} in the form of multiple secondary characters participating in affairs.  The language was probably mild according to most people...some soft swears and some instances of God's name in vain.
If it weren't for these two things I would have given this book 4 or 4.5 stars.  Although the writing was older style and a bit harder to follow I did enjoy it.  I don't know if the writing became less old fashioned as the book went on or if I just got used to it but I did find myself not having to focus as hard later on as I did the first few chapters.
It was an enjoyable story and I was able to peg the killer about midway through the book.  I probably won't be ordering more in this series though and will hesitantly recommend it.
